Administration
BVA's administration is comprised of a formal Administration Team (A-Team) and staff members.
The A-Team is ultimately accountable for the day-to-day operations of Boston Virtual ARTCC and is action-oriented: each A-Team member is responsible for a specific set of activities. Together, the objective of BVA's administration and staff members is to continuously improve upon the experience the community provides its members within the VATSIM network.
Staff Members
The A-Team is by no means the only leadership or task force in the community. There are a number of other members, listed below, who provide countless hours of service to BVA. Click any staff member's name to contact that individual via email.
- Alec Liberman - Logan Informer & Treasury
- Josh Marshall - Member Support
- Chris Raabe - Military
- Harry Murphine - Cape Air Virtual
- Austin Cirulli - Events Team
- Sean Doyle - Events Team
- Brett Robinson - Events Team
The Administration Team
The Boston Virtual ARTCC administration is led by three roles. The Air Traffic Manager is primarily responsible for the air traffic control organization. That individual oversees controllers, and also works with the Deputy Air Traffic Manager, Facilities Engineer, and Events Coordinator to manage our ATC roster, ensure our technology is up-to-date, and plan and execute events with air traffic control.
Meanwhile, the Community Manager is responsible for the pilot and controller aspect of the organization. This role ensures that everything we do—ATC, events, training, and sub-communities like Cape Air Virtual and our military—has the pilot and controller community at heart. The Community Manager works with the Website Administrator to ensure that our technology meets the needs of our growing organization.
Finally, the Training Administrator sits between these roles, and is responsible for developing pilot and air traffic control training across the organization.
BVA members are added to the A-Team at the invitation of existing A-Team members, which generally occurs when an existing A-Team member vacates a position. Members who are interested in joining the team should express this interest to existing A-Team members and monitor the forums for position postings in order to formally apply to the team. Note that applications are generally only accepted from members who are 18 years of age or older, have been a member for more than one year, are currently active within the community and who have a positive standing within the community.
Meet The Administration Team
The individuals of the A-Team are listed below. We encourage you to read each administrator’s profile and learn more about this group. If you would like to contact a member of the A-Team, please click on that member's name.
Braden Kearney (Facility Engineer)
Ever since finding out about the wonders of the sky, aviation has been an interest of Braden's. Braden is the youngest member of the A-Team. Braden was able to pursue his aviation love after getting a yoke and a PC at the end of 2019. Braden joined VATSIM in January of 2020 as a pilot, and joined BVARTCC as a controller shortly after that. After getting situated as a controller, Braden joined the Training Staff and has been a mentor since the end of 2021. Braden then joined the A-Team as the Facility Engineer in November of 2022. Outside of VATSIM, Braden has his Private Pilot's License, and his goal is to eventually make it to the airlines.
Camden Bruno (Community Manager)
Cam has had a life-long passion for aviation, and first joined VATSIM in 2013 as a pilot member to aid his private pilot training. Shortly thereafter, he joined Boston's air traffic control team and later went on to contribute as a member of the ATC Training Staff. BVA's community inspired him to study Aviation Science in college, and today he enjoys flying throughout the New England region, both on the simulator and in the real world. Cam has also previously served as BVA's Events Coordinator and Air Traffic Manager.
Cameron Peterson (Events Coordinator)
Cameron grew an interest in aviation from a very young, from making the transcontinental flights out to the Sacramento area to visit family, to making the childhood dream flight down to Orlando to visit the legendary mouse. As he grew older, he was fortunate enough to attend a High School summer camp which offered a discovery flight out of a local flight school. Getting into a cockpit of a plane for the first time, feeling the maneuverability of such a small plane and the openness of the sky grew that interest even more. Cameron started his virtual simulation interest way back in 2014 with Flight Simulator X, finally joining BVA in December of 2018 and starting his ATC track in early 2019. Since then, Cameron has continued his progression through his certifications, joining the Training Staff in August of 2020, and was hired on as Events Coordinator in August of 2021. Outside of the simulation world, Cameron still has aspirations to one day achieve his Private Pilot’s License, using the amazing knowledge he has learned through this community.
Collin Koldoff (Webmaster)
Collin joined VATSIM in 2017, transferring into BVA as a controller in 2018. He has been a member of the training staff since 2020. Outside of the simulation world, Collin is pursuing his Private Pilot's License and using the knowledge he has learned from the BVA community. Collin is also studying for his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and using his knowledge to develop software for BVA and the VATSIM network. Some of Collin's recent projects are a new ATC Training client and a tool for monitoring airport Runway Visibility Range. Collin joined the Administration Team as Facility Engineer in 2021 and will continue to work as part of our Web Services Team.
Evan Reiter (Community Director)
Evan began using Flight Simulator X with a passion for aviation and almost no knowledge of flying or air traffic control. The people, professionalism, and experiences of Boston Virtual ARTCC inspired him to begin flight training for his private certificate. After working as a Management Consultant and flying recreationally for two years, he succumbed to his love of aviation and decided to pursue a commercial license. He now a Captain on CRJ series aircraft for a North American airline. Evan credits Boston Virtual ARTCC and Flight Simulator X (and later Prepar3D) as incredibly powerful aids in all of his flight training.
Today, Evan oversees the community's training programs including Wings Over New England, and works to help ensure the continued integration of the pilot and air traffic control aspects BVA. He is an active controller and instructor in the air traffic control program. Evan is also the co-founder of Flight Simulation Association, the membership-based organization that runs FlightSimExpo every year.
Josh Nunn (Air Traffic Manager)
Josh discovered flight simulation in 2016 and became hooked very quickly. He joined VATSIM in 2017 and spent his first several months on the network as a pilot before becoming a controller with BVARTCC in 2018. Josh has been very involved with the community since attending Flight Sim Expo in 2018, serving as Events Coordinator and Deputy Air Traffic Manager before his promotion to Training Administrator in October 2021.
Josh began learning about aviation using X-Plane and flying on the VATSIM network. Josh picked up a lot of knowledge flying in the ZBW airspace and listening to the professionalism of Boston's virtual air traffic controllers. Josh's interest in aviation ended up carrying over to the real world, as he left his career as an engineer to pursue a career in aviation. He is currently working as a First Officer on the 737.
Justin Blakey (Training Administrator)
Justin started playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X in 2017 and his fascination with aviation quickly blossomed. He joined VATSIM shortly thereafter out of a desire to enhance his procedural knowledge and simulate a realistic operating environment. He started controlling on the network in 2018 and joined BVA in 2019.
BVA inspired Justin to pursue a career path in real-world aviation. After graduating from engineering school, he earned a commercial pilot's license with flight instructor certificates in 2022. He is currently a developmental air traffic controller at an enroute facility in the United States.
Nathan Rankin (Deputy Air Traffic Manager)
Nathan began using flight simulators in high school to supplement his student pilot training and joined Boston Virtual ARTCC as a controller shortly thereafter. In 2019, he became a Mentor and has since taught the fundamentals of air traffic control to BVA members. He was promoted to Instructor in 2021. Nathan joined BVA's Administration Team in 2019 as the Facility Engineer, and has been serving as DATM since 2021. In addition to his roles at BVA, Nathan is an administrator and lead developer on the vNAS project, which seeks to closely replicate FAA ATC software for use on the VATSIM network. Outside of flight sim, Nathan is a software engineer in the aerospace industry, holds a private pilot's license with an instrument rating, and enjoys flying general aviation in the Boston area.
