Member Expectations

Boston Virtual ARTCC (BVA) is a community within VATSIM's global network of pilots and controllers. Specifically, BVA provides air traffic control (ATC) within the Boston ARTCC on VATSIM. In addition, we have an active community of pilots who work with the controllers to create one of the most realistic online air traffic control environments.

Our Expectations

The information on this page is provided for members to have a better understanding of what constitutes acceptable behavior at BVA. It supplements our Privacy Statement, Terms of Use, and the Online Safety Statement shown to prospective members.

We expect members of BVA to act professionally, maturely, and respectfully at all times within the confines of our community. We are not governed by codified rules; instead, BVA is governed by a set of norms and shared values that unite our members. We work together in expressing our passion about aviation. Members are therefore expected to recognize the needs and wants of other users, and use our shared values and objectives to frame decisions.

When communicating through any server, posting on our forums, or flying or controlling on the VATSIM network, your responsibility is to act within the confines of our shared values:

  1. Mutual respect
  2. Responsibility and accountability
  3. Empathy and courtesy
  4. Honesty

You must also comply with the VATSIM Code of Conduct and Code of Regulations.

BVA's members are expected to act within our shared values anytime they are connected with BVA, which can include situations that arise outside of VATSIM or BVA servers. Within and without the flight simulation community, your actions reflect on our organization.

Your account is your responsibility. Keep your password safe and ensure you are the only one who has access to sign in to our website or onto the VATSIM network.

Member Conduct

The materials provided to new members should provide the rational reader with our expectations of members and what acceptable conduct is at BVA. In addition to that information, we have some very specific expectations for certain situations.

  1. BVA will not tolerate defamation, slander, libel, racial or sexual intolerance, abuse, or harassment at any time and in any form.
  2. Software piracy is not acceptable; BVA does not condone any form of intellectual property infringement between members and will act to remove and block transmissions of unauthorized intellectual property from or between our website. This action may include informing relevant authorities, including the intellectual property owner.
  3. When operating in other communities or in other places on the internet, we represent the community and should remember that when deciding how to act in those places.
  4. Members must be at least 13 years of age, or the corresponding minimum legal age in countries outside of the United States, to access our website or take part in the community. Members under the age of 18 are strongly encouraged to inform their parents or guardians about their intent to participate in the community.
  5. Content contained on password-protected pages of the Boston Virtual ARTCC website or forums may not be shared with anyone outside of the community.

Users wishing to report members who do not conform to our shared values can do so by emailing [email protected], or using the anonymous contact form on the Contact Us page.

BVA is under no obligation to act on feedback provided or to proactively address gaps in any of the analogous or enumerated expectations on this page. While we will make every effort to ensure our expectations are met, BVA is a volunteer community run by individuals who donate their time for the betterment of the community. No member receives any monetary compensation for work performed, and each must manage “real-world” responsibilities in addition to the responsibilities held within the community.
