BVA's Getting Started Guide: Sharing Aircraft

Sharing Aircraft >> Overview | Hosting a Shared Aircraft | Joining a Hosted Aircraft | Tips and Tricks

This optional section of the Getting Started Guide provides instructions for hosting or joining a shared aircraft as well as some tips and tricks for optimizing the sharing experience. We recommend that members who are interested in hosting or joining shared sessions explore this section at their own pace, after flying their first few flights on our network.

Aircraft sharing is NOT required to fly on our server. This section of the Getting Started Guide is provided as a reference for those who choose to share aircraft.

One of the best features about flying online is the ability to share aircraft. Two pilots are able to share an aircraft, flying jetliners in two-crew configurations or helping each other in real time. Sharing aircraft requires very little effort to configure but allows for a whole new flying experience. Particularly for new pilots, flying with an experienced member can make learning about online flyingthat much easier. Pilots are encouraged to share aircraft informally or to request a co-pilot from our Virtual FBO.

In FSX, up to two members can share aircraft on our server. One member must first configure an aircraft as the host. This member will set up the callsign to be used for the flight, and will be responsible for filing the flight plan.

Once the host aircraft is configured, another member can join that hosted aircraft.

This section discusses sharing aircraft in the FSX multiplayer environment. For sharing to work, both pilots must have the same aircraft installed on their systems (including the same name/livery). Sharing is supported in all FSX default aircraft and in many add-on aircraft. Some payware add-on aircraft do not support sharing through multiplayer but allow it in other ways. If sharing an add-on aircraft does not work via FSX multiplayer, check with the manufacturer for more information on alternative solutions.
