  2. Our controller friends at ZMA are playing host for this week's Regional Circuit featuring a fantastic airport pair in sunny Southern Florida, Key West International (KEYW) and Opa-Locka Executive - Miami (KOPF). Routing: EYW-OPF (RNAV): CARNU CURSO4 (AOB 17000) EYW-OPF (Non-RNAV): CARNU DVALL2 (AOB 17000) OPF-EYW: MNATE V3 JANKA (AOB 16000) Scenery Updated scenery is not required. However, several recommendations are available here, on ZMA's website. If you are looking for payware, ZMA recommends Latin VFR for both airports. Also, demo versions of Miami City 2012 and Miami City X are available on avsim.com We look forward to seeing you in the air tomorrow night!
  3. Happy 2017! While summer may seem a distant illusion at the moment, it is time to start planning for our signature controlling event: the 2017 Boston Tea Party. For several years, we have been hosted by the wonderful folks at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH. As many of you know, DWC has merged with Southern New Hampshire University and will be closing the Nashua campus at end of this academic year. I have been in touch with our contact at DWC to talk about options going forward. The good news is that he will be remaining on staff and there will be a similar space available at the SNHU campus in Manchester. The bad news is that the new space may not be ready for summer. I wanted to reach out to the larger group to ask for your help in locating prospective, back-up venues. The facility would ideally meet the following criteria: [*]Be located in the greater Boston area, preferably closer to Nashua, NH [*]Have a computer lab with at least 20 work stations, preferably dual monitor [*]Be willing to host us on a Saturday in the summer time (date negotiable) [*]Allow for us to have our VATSIM specific software loaded prior to the event Can you tell that we’ve been spoiled by DWC? If you know of a facility that might meet our needs, and have contact that you would be willing to exploit share, please reach out to me. Here or by email clifw (at) bvartcc.com Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Thanks to everyone who came out last night, pilots and controllers alike. I hope that you enjoyed the event!
  5. We hope that you'll join us tomorrow night! Preferred routes for the event:
  6. We’re kicking off our new year of events with an international flair featuring a cross-border, cross-fire event with Moncton FIR. Since 1971, the official Boston Christmas Tree has been donated to the people of Boston by the people of Nova Scotia in appreciation for the assistance given in the aftermath of a devastating explosion that destroyed the City of Halifax in 1917. In honor of that tradition, our event will feature Boston’s Logan Airport (KBOS) and Halifax’s Stanfield International Airport (CYHZ). Our preferred routes will follow closely the voyage that the Christmas tree makes each year; through Nova Scotia, across the Bay of Fundy, continuing through Maine and New Hampshire to Boston. We hope that you’ll join us on Monday, January 2nd, from 7-11 pm ET for an exciting night of internationally camaraderie.
  7. With a tentative date of October 22, VATSIM hosts Cross The Pond Eastbound, the annual flight across the Atlantic Ocean from North America to Europe. The departure and arrival airports are in the process of being selected, so we won’t know whether KBOS will be an official airport or not. However, in any case, BVA will have a major presence in this annual event. We encourage our pilots to fly local, or—for the guys who like the tubeliners—to join the fun and reserve a departure slot. Please keep an eye on this thread for more information as the event draws closer.
  8. On October 7, BVA hosts 60 Hours of ATC for the first time on the VATSIM network. Together, our team of Center controllers will be staffing Boston Center for 60 straight hours, beginning at 11am ET on Friday, October 7 until 11:00pm ET on Sunday, October 10. 60 Hours of ATC offers pilots from around the world the opportunity to fly in our airspace any time, day or night. Alongside ZBW, expect to see a large volume of local control at KBOS and the other surrounding airports. Stay tuned to this thread for upcoming details!
  9. We have a limited amount of space remaining at Daniel Webster College and would like to see how much interest there is from our pilot community to participate in person. If you are interested and available to attend, please post here. Once we have an idea of how many people are interested, we'll decide how to proceed. This is a bit time sensitive, we're rapidly approaching the deadline for lodging; please try to reply by Thursday morning. This by no way a commitment at this point but as a matter of respect for your fellow community members, be serious if you say "yes". It may have an impact on how many people we can accept, and in years past we have come close to turning folks away due to space restrictions only to have others be no-call/no-shows. Please let me know if you have questions!
  10. Welcome to the 17th annual Boston Tea Party. For seven hours on August 13th, controllers from BVA will come together at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, NH for a day of fun for controllers and pilots alike. Not only will Boston Logan staffed to the hilt, but we also plan to staff many of our smaller airports, such as Hartford-Bradley, Providence, Albany, and the variety of airports on the Cape. All airports in the ZBW airspace will have at least center coverage. During Tea Party, you'll be able to share the fun with many pilots and compete for some fantastic prizes in Tea Party Poker. Last year, virtual Boston had more traffic than real Boston did during the same time span, and numbers were comparable at Bradley International. Where ever you choose to fly during Tea Party rest assured you will not be alone. Please visit the 17th Annual Boston Tea Party webpage for more information, and check out our article in the July Logan Informer! CONTROLLERS: Visit the Tea Party 2016 Thread for rostering and event information.
  11. The Regional Circuit scheduled for Wednesday, April 20th has been cancelled and rescheduled for Monday, May 23rd
  12. Join us tonight as we rock the ZBW airpace. Boston will be staffed top-to-bottom with additional staffing on the Cape (ACK and MVY), Bradley, and Providence! See you on the scopes starting at 1900 ET
  13. With opening day at historic Fenway Park just around the corner, join the controllers of Boston Virtual ARTCC for this knock it out of the park FNO! On Friday, April 8th, the controllers of Boston Virtual ARTCC will staffing the airspace top-to-bottom as we host the weekly VATUSA Friday Night Ops event. We hope to see you on the scopes!
  14. Looking for some fun GA flying? Check out ZNY's Tower Tuesday Series. No events currently scheduled.
  15. Join the New York ARTCC for a fun night flying VFR through one of the four major facilities in New York's airspace each Tuesday! On Tuesday, February 23rd, we will be lighting up all 4 towers within Philadelphia's airspace between 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM EST. This includes PHL, ILG, TTN, & PNE towers. We encourage all IFR and VFR traffic, so pull out your old Cessna and take it for a spin up or down the Delaware River.
  16. We are excited to announce that we are giving our controllers a little vacation and taking March's Regional Circuit event on the road! The controllers of Virtual Denver ARTCC have offered to host us for a winter wonderland spectacular between Denver (KDEN) and Eagle County (KEGE). Stay tuned to the Regional Circuit webpage for updates, including preferred routing. I hope that you can join us for, what I hope is, the first in a series of cooperative events with other ARTCCs. Special thanks to Mark Mayo for the idea that sparked this event.
  17. That's a handsome question, and thank you for asking it. I've update the chart to reflect the preferred arrival routes as well.
  18. I hope that you will join us tonight for The Northeastern Corridor 2016! In addition to KBOS, we'll be staffing up a few of the Class C airports for your intra-ARTCC enjoyment. Flying one of the event routes? Below is preferred routing to both DCA and LGA. Why fly a preferred route? Preferred routing helps to keep the entire event running smoothly. From Clearance Delivery at your departure field to Departure Control to Enroute Center; controllers will appreciate if you are able to fly preferred routing - especially during a busy event like this. Question? Please ask! We're here for you!
  19. Please join me in congratulating Fredrik Alstromer (AE) on the successful completion of his Class C DEL/GND training. AE saw right through all of our old tricks, and some of our new ones, to deliver a stellar performance on his OTS. Additionally, kudos for slaying your S1 exam with a perfect score! Welcome to the Charlie CAB Crew!
  20. Join us on Friday, January 29th for the second annual Northeastern Corridor. We're teaming up with vZNY and vZDC to bring you an FNO like no other! We'll be lighting up the Northeastern United States, renowned for it's busy airline commuter and business service, and bringing service to three of the major metropolitan airports of the area: Boston (KBOS), New York-La Guardia (KLGA) and Washington-National (KDCA). We welcome all pilots and aircraft to come and join us for this chance to fly with ATC service in one of the most busy and congested air spaces in the country!
  21. Cross posted from the VATUSA Forum. See the orginal post here for updates. VATUSA is pleased to announce a Town Hall meeting, Thursday 14 Jan at 9:30pm EST, 8:30pm CST, 7:30pm MST, 6:30pm PST, 5:30pm AKST, 4:30pm HST, 15 Jan at 0230Z, etc. -- pick your favorite time zone. :) A suggestion was made after the Kyle Ramsey Town Hall Meet and Greet a couple of months ago that VATUSA should host a similar type of meeting. Don Desfosse, VATUSA Division Director, will host a brief discussion highlighting some recent VATUSA highlights, projects, challenges and opportunities, turn the mic over to various VATUSA staff members to add a little color, and then open the forum for general conversation, questions and answers. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time we've ever tried this in VATUSA, at least in the 8 years that I've been a member. Like any new undertaking, I figure it can't (or shouldn't :) ) hurt to try it out and see if it's a good thing to do once in a while. Of course, with approximately 17,500 active members in VATUSA, there is no one day and time that will be perfect for everyone; if the meeting is a success and something we want to try again in the future, we'll do our best to rotate days and times to give everyone an opportunity to participate. The meeting will take place in the VATUSA Teamspeak server. Login details will be provided within a day or two of the meeting. Please use your full name in the nickname login line. Hope to see lots of folks there!
  22. Please join me in congratulating Jarid Masiel (ME) on the successful completion of his Class C GND OTS. ME adeptly handled a wide variety of IFR and VFR aircraft at Portland, and I'm proud to say that there are no new hideous metal sculptures added to the Harbor Visual Approach. In addition to passing his OTS, ME successfully completed his S1 exam on the same night, just shy of a perfect score! Congratulations, ME. Welcome to the Cab!
  23. Hello BVARTCC Pilot Community! I hope that this finds you all well. You can find an up-to-date schedule of BVARTCC hosted events here. A huge thank you to all of the BVARTCC pilots who have been making these regular events such a success! I speak for the entire ATC staff when I tell you that we have been having an absolute blast providing ATC services for you. We want these events to continue to be as fun and diverse as possible. Have an idea for an event? Have an airport pair that you'd like to see featured? Have a challenge that you've been itching to conquer? Let us know! Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome. Post here, catch us on Teamspeak, or send me an email events [at] bvartcc.com
  24. Having heard nothing back from the ZOB EC, I'm going to say this one is a no-go. Great idea, Don! Thanks for the proposal.
  25. I'll reach out to ZOB to see if there is any interest on their end. In the meantime, informal poll for available controllers for Thursday? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
