Over 150 members (approximately 5% of our membership) took part in our 2025 Member Survey, which was available between February 1 and March 5, 2025. The Administration Team is grateful to those who took the time to provide feedback on the community and ideas for how we can continue to offer great service to our members.

We cover 2024 Member Survey Results, CTP, FlightSim Survey Results, FSExpo news, and more in the May Logan Informer.

As you know, with the introduction of AI-based ATC platforms like SayIntentions.AI, it's become more important than ever to provide exceptional, professional, and realistic ATC services when you connect to the VATSIM network. Simultaneously, the demand on our airports during busy events like Go Arounds For You (GFY) continues to increase. To ensure that pilots continue to receive the realistic service they expect, I today signed an Air Traffic Order requiring that...

We start our public-facing homepage with the words “We are an Aviation Family”. In many ways, “like family” is how many of us view the community. Some of us talk every day; others we hear from on occasion, and there are some names we’d still recognize even though we haven’t connected in years. (And don’t get us started on the crazy uncles…)

Like a family, we don’t always agree 100% of the time. Some of us don’t call as often as we’d like. But, like a family, we take care of each other, and we share a unique passion for a hobby that probably seems a little crazy to some of our real families.

As we reach the end of 2024 and turn the calendar to 2025, join the Administration Team as we look back on what made us proud in 2024, and what we aspire to in 2025.

On Friday, June 21, every domestic VATUSA ARTCC was staffed during “Light Up America”, a special event that featured several controllers working traffic live from the FlightSimExpo exhibit hall. Special events like these showcase what the network is all about, and we’re proud to have supported the experience with enhanced staffing in our airspace.

At the end of each year, the Administration Team collects statistics from across our organization: membership, controlling hours, movements at our busiest airport, WINGS flights, and more. But, as you’ll see, stats are just numbers. It’s what they represent that really matters.

In the January Logan Informer, we look through the 2023 that was, share some of our proudest moments, and look ahead to what the new year holds for the community.

As counted by StatSim, the busiest airports on VATSIM in 2023 were EDDF and EGLL. KBOS retained the title of the busiest airport in VATUSA, and was 7th overall. The Top 20 for 2023 are:

On Saturday, October 28, more than 25 of our controllers staffed up Boston, Bradley, and radar positions across our airspace to participate in Cross the Pond Eastbound 2023. Between 7am and 12pm ET, we launched 150 departures to domestic airports and seven destinations across the Atlantic: EBBR, EDDF, EGLL, EHAM, ESSA, LIRF, and LOWW.

  15. The most recent FAA Airport Diagram for KBOS added 'T' as a turnoff from Runway 33L and removed portions of Taxiway 'F'. We recognize it will take time for simulator software to reflect the changes. Additionally, Runway 33L is closed (in real life) for resurfacing until November.

When landing Runway 33L, pilots are encouraged not to exit on Taxiway 'F', even if it exists within their simulators.

When using Runway 33L for landing, controllers will:

    • Instruct pilots who exit Runway 33L on 'F' to "cross Runway 22L on Foxtrot", as if the taxiway existed.
    • Instruct pilots who exit Runway 33L on 'Q' to "join Mike" prior being instructed to cross Runway 22L on 'F', 'C', or another taxiway.
    • Controllers will not instruct aircraft to taxi on the removed portion of 'Q' between Runways 4L/4R. However, if a pilot enters this area, controllers will issue a crossing instruction with reference to 'Q'.

The current and former Airport Diagrams are screenshotted below, and a comparison PDF is attached.

We are honored to have been selected as a departure field for 2023’s Cross the Pond on October 28. Thanks to your votes, Boston (KBOS) will be one of 12 airports available for transatlantic departures in this year’s eastbound Cross the Pond.

If you’re planning to fly within oceanic airspace on October 28, you need a slot. To obtain one, you’ll first register your interest. From there, a combination lottery and “first-come, first-served” booking process determines which slot you’ll receive. You can find full details here.

  17. Very few members understand the behind-the-scenes work the ATC leadership does for our community, and the ATM leads that show. Clif, thank you so much for stepping up when we needed you the most, and keeping your foot on the pedal ever since. There were times when the future of BVA as we know it was very much in question, and both for my own personal reasons and for the good of the community, I'm so happy you've kept a steady hand on the wheel to keep moving us all forward.

While I know you won't be gone, you will be missed.
