  1. Well done RI! Looking forward to working with you in Nashua.
  2. Hi Leonardo, can you please send me an email ([email protected]) with your full name and CID so I can check on the status of your application.
  3. The xpilot client for X-Plane users is now available: https://audio.vatsim.net/docs/2.0/pilots/xpilot.
  4. Audio for VATSIM is now live! Our controllers and pilots have been flying and enjoying the incredible new system for the past several hours. As expected, there are a few changes that are going to be required to enhance realism and improve voice communication in our airspace in the coming days. At this point, we understand that vPilot is available for pilots using P3D/FSX, and X-Plane pilots can use either swift (AFV integrated) or XSquawkbox by using the AFV Standalone Client. Controllers are able to connect using the regular software.
  5. VATSIM has just released the downloads and updates required for the launch of Audio for VATSIM on Monday. There may be some slight changes to the documentation as the X Plane clients are rapidly being updated. You can access the files at https://audio.vatsim.net/ for your pilot or controller client. There is also additional information including links, text instructions for installations, tutorial videos on installing and using clients, and best practices for using Audio for VATSIM.
  6. As of October 11, we have found out two new pieces of information, which have been updated in the post above (and are corrections to the email we just sent out): Users of swift will need to download the AFV Standalone Client. The only X-Plane client that will be AFV-enabled at launch will be xPilot. The use of 121.50 remains forbidden by VATSIM Code of Conduct (for the time being) As we find out additional information about AFV, we'll continue to publish it on this thread. For controllers, we're told that our airspace has been pre-configured with the necessary transceivers and frequencies. However, our administration does not yet have access to the backend to verify it. Whether or not we do get access, we're told that ZBW's airspace is "more or less done" and should only need minor tweaks as we find out what does and doesn't work.
  7. This thread has been created for us to share tips and tricks about Audio for VATSIM (AFV), the new and enhanced voice platform for the network, AFV is scheduled for release on October 14, and represents the biggest technological change in VATSIM’s recent history. AFV boasts crystal-clear audio, VHF radio simulation, range-based frequencies, and more. The new system will result in radio communications that are clearer and more realistic than what we are familiar with today. To support the transition, the network will be offline beginning at 4pm ET on October 13 for up to 24 hours. This is a VATSIM-driven change and is external to BVA. While our staff will do our best to keep members up-to-date, we encourage you to look for the latest news on AFV on the VATSIM Twitter page and at http://vats.im/voice. When AFV is live on October 14, you’ll notice the following changes: Frequencies are now ‘live’ at all times; you can tune into any frequency and transmit, just like in an airplane. Frequencies are based on range and location; you may not be able to hear every pilot, and in some cases, communication with Center facilities on the ground may not be as clear as in the air. If you are unable to reach ATC by voice, you can continue to use text or a private message. While transmitting, you will not be able to hear incoming messages. Similarly, if two people transmit at the same time, you may hear one of them, or you may hear a heterodyne (tone) blocking out each. Pilots should remember that: The most important thing you can do is ensure your microphone is calibrated correctly and the volume is adjusted in your pilot client. The VATSIM-wide CTAF/UNICOM of 122.80 is now voice-enabled. Its range is limited to 15 miles. You may use this frequency with voice or text to transmit intentions when ATC is offline. Individual airport CTAFs are not to be used at this time. If you need to speak to another pilot, consider using 122.80 or the international air-to-air frequency of 123.45. The use of ‘guard’ on 121.50 remains restricted by VATSIM Code of Conduct for the time being. Once AFV is released, pilots will need to update their software to connect to the network: For FSX/P3D pilots using vPilot to connect to the network, you’ll need to update to the latest version. You can do this now through the application or on the vPilot website. For X-Plane pilots, the recommendation is to upgrade to a new client called xPilot that is being released on October 14. You’ll be able to download it from http://vats.im/voice shortly. If you use swift or XSquawkbox, you’ll need to download a standalone client to connect to the network. Click here for more information. This exciting change to the network is new to our controllers and staff as well. Over the first few weeks, we encourage pilots to be patient as we all learn the new system. We also invite you to share your tips and tricks, or ask questions, on Discord and our forums. For more information, visit the Audio for VATSIM website
  8. I guess I was too busy coming up with other puns that I got the aviation one wrong. That's been amended now.
  9. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Jero Wang (WG) as our newest Class C Ground controller! He pushed tin until his voice was hoarse, galloped his way through IFR clearances, and kept the blinders off while scanning the ground to ensure aircraft kept moving effectively. Looking forward to working with you on the network.
  10. We need your help to vote KBOS as a departure airport for Cross the Pond 2019 Eastbound! Voting is open until September 21. To vote: Go to vats.im/ctp. Click 'Login' at the top, and login using your VATSIM CID and password. Once logged in, click 'Vote' at the top of the page. Select Boston as your departure airport, choose an arrival field, and click "Submit Vote". Cross The Pond is VATSIM's largest event; thousands of pilots and controllers get together to fly and control it. The event will be held on October 26, beginning at 1100z (7am ET). Virtually the entire east coast of the U.S. is typically staffed along with western Europe and Oceanic ATC. But we need your help: we'll only be selected as a departure field if we get the votes for it. Vote now and help ensure we are selected as one of the U.S. departure airports for the event.
  11. They haven't given a release date, although they are targeting a release before Cross the Pond, so that would imply it will happen soon. When the new codec is released, it will replace the current sound system and yes, will become the new norm. Except for special events like the one we held this week, BVA/ZBW controllers won't be staffing on the AFV beta server or using the new codec. And, at this time, we don't have any events scheduled using the new software.
  12. Dave, have you tried running the AFV program "as administrator"?
  13. Save the date! FlightSimExpo 2020 will be held on June 12-14 at Tropicana Las Vegas. As was the case in 2019, a limited number advance registration tickets will be available for just $50 (increasing to $80 once these are sold out). You can join the FSExpo mailing list to be notified when tickets go on sale later this year. For more information about FSExpo 2020, check out this recent FSElite article or visit FlightSimExpo online or on social media. Boston Virtual ARTCC is a proud supporter of FlightSimExpo, and many of our members volunteer with the conference each year. We look forward to seeing you in Vegas!
  14. The Logan Informer is Boston Virtual ARTCC's monthly community newsletter; it's emailed to BVA members on the 1st of every month. 15. As part of the ongoing website migration, we have elected to update our membership database and disable the accounts of some members who have not been active online. Over the next few days, we'll begin disabling the accounts of members who have not logged into our website (new or old) within the past year. If you wish to remain part of the community, please complete the following as soon as possible: Click the "Existing User? Sign In" at the top right of this page. Click the blue "VATSIM Sign In" button. Login (note: you will use the same CID and password you use to connect to the VATSIM network). If you have any trouble logging in or are unable to complete the steps above, please email [email protected]. Any member with an inactive account will have received an email from us with the instructions above. If you are a regular, active member and have logged into the website in the past year, no action is required. This process will help ensure our membership roster is up-to-date, and will also allow the community to save money. We want to ensure we are using the new email sending service, which will be used to provide you with the Logan Informer and event updates, is only sending emails to those who will benefit from them.
  16. The VATSIM network team is aware of an issue affecting access to weather information within VATSIM. Currently, this also prevents controllers from connecting a textual or voice ATIS using vATIS. Until vATIS and regular METAR functionality returns, please be aware of the implications for pilots you are controlling around the unavailability of weather information, and provide appropriate runway/planning information in a timely fashion. https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=79161#p534489
  17. Thank you to the many members who have taken the time to email, Discord, or provide feedback to us via voice in TeamSpeak. We are excited to finally have a website platform that we have control over. Over the next 1-2 weeks, we will be implementing several bug fixes and minor changes to improve functionality based on your feedback. Stay tuned on this thread and here on our forums where we'll provide more information.
