  1. Congratulations! Certs earned during a heavy event are all-the-more sweet!
  2. Congrats, Jay! Earning a cert, and particularly a Center cert, during CTP is a deservedly rare event, and one that you can be immensely proud of. CTP is busy and crazy enough that no Instructor would put you up for an OTS during a CTP unless you were absolutely ready and just there to show your stuff. And you did. Awesome!
  3. A great job last night, indeed! Congratulations, OD! -- DO
  4. Mike, it was great to have your leadership in the role, and on the senior staff. You've done a fantastic job, and the facility is much better off for it. Evan, all the best for luck and success. You're a great educator and leader, and will do quite well, I'm sure of it!
  5. While I generally hesitate to suggest an event that could occur during a sporting event that a lot of our controllers might want to watch, I wonder if there's enough interest between us and ZOB to have a quick crossfire event either on, or leading up to, Thursday night. I'd normally suggest Wednesday, but there's already an event scheduled (http://www.vatusa.net/forums/index.php?action=calendar) What do you think? Any interest? Can we put together something with ZOB that fast? Should we shoot for Thursday with a second choice of Tuesday or Monday? Or just do it on one of the other days if folks will be too busy watching the game? ----- Uppin' the Air - Boston/Pittsburgh Crossfire Date - Times Check your tires for proper inflation before you come fly in a friendly crossfire event between Pittsburgh and Boston. Instead of shooting properly inflated balls into the air, our excellent ATC teams will be shooting properly inflated aircraft toward each other. The ATC team that catches more passes leading to a touchdown (lands more aircraft) wins! ----- EDIT: Changed order of PIT and BOS to subliminally suggest that all aircraft should come in to KBOS... :)
  6. Not likely, as I'm sure the Europeans want to get to bed at some point, but always an interesting thought....
  7. Please join me in congratulating Evan Reiter (RT) in earning his Full Performance Level Center certification tonight! As many Sweatboxes that I've run and scenarios I've created over the years, tonight's network traffic, especially for a Tuesday night, was something pretty special! RT had already been controlling for over 2.5 hours when it was my turn to sit behind him, yelling and whacking him with rolled up newspapers. Minute by minute, the traffic level grew. The challenges grew. There was aluminum all over the place, but RT kept it all coordinated and separated, dealt aptly with the large number of missed approaches due to weather, and even kept one pilot's Mom in check. All traffic moved safely; no aircraft traded paint (or worse). CONGRATULATIONS!
  8. Congrats, WN. We're all counting on you! :) BN, you did an absolutely fantastic job as EC. Thank you!
  9. It's probably pretty well known that the majority of VATSIM operations are IFR, mainly air carrier and large cargo flights. The Houston ARTCC trying something new, and is holding an event that is designed to staff every (controlled) airport within their boundaries. They will open up the floodgates to all controllers by giving a one-day "visiting status" to any VATUSA controller, and are encouraging a ton of traffic to come and fly, especially to the lesser known airports. This might be a great way for a ton of BVA "light aircraft" pilots to have some fun and really boost the traffic into lesser-known airfields to help make this event a resounding success. 10. And the only thing constant is change.... LOGAN9 is scheduled to be released on 10/15/2015 (changing some required climb rates, adding CAM and HANAA, deleting several fixes including LUCOS). HANSCOM1 is scheduled to be released on 12/10/2015 (changing top altitude to 2000). KPWM has updates to its DPs and STARs scheduled to be released on 12/10/2015.
  11. Assuming all come over, ZBW would be hovering around 100 on the roster. The better measure is how many are active, though.... That said, the ZBW roster would be one of the top three, likely number three.
  12. Congrats, WN! Ah, yes, the memories come flooding back... Semibusy... Busy... Very Busy... Superbusy! Mwuahahahahaha!!!! :) Again, congrats!
  13. Can't say it any better than you all have. DA, you will be missed by many. Can't believe I spoke to you just a few hours earlier. May you rest in peace, and may your family find God's peace during this tragic time.
  14. Fantastic, KZ! You've done an absolutely great job getting here. Oh, don't worry, there is upwards! Now, make us proud during CTPs, Tea Parties, and FNOs! And, do everything you can to teach the newer students well! Again, congratulations!
  15. FWIW, that's what I do.... "If you teach a man to fish...." ;)
  16. Congrats, BN! I know you'll do great! Besides training, events are the lifeblood of any ARTCC! Oh, goodness, the board of health has finally unsealed that office? Good luck with that!
  17. MRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Congrats, great to see you stepping up!
  18. Congrats, DB. It's a tough job, but a VERY rewarding one. I'm glad you're stepping up. Boston will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I'm always happy knowing that there is good, strong leadership in place here. As always, let me know how I can help. _______________ Don Desfosse Director, VATUSA
  19. Congrats, BN! You've done a great, great job at ZBW. Keep it up!
  20. I've been doing CTPs for 7 years. English works just fine. And in the interest of simulating actual ATC, you won't hear USA ATC issue any commands in anything but English (I know, I know, they don't use text or aliases either, but that doesn't mean you have to turn all of this into an anti-simulation... ;) ).
  21. Note that on page 4, the A90 frequency of 127.22 has been changed to 120.60
