Ran the practical exam with Alec Liberman (LN) today on Boston Approach (A90) and he passed with flying colors. As many of the BVA controllers know, A90 is by far the most rigorous training you will receive and ends with the hardest practical exam you will endure here at BVA. It takes a lot to achieve a Boston Approach certification and LN certainly deserved it. Once this certification is complete, then it's just a matter of learning how to manage multiple TRACONs at a time while incorporating some en-route control tactics and then its onto Boston Center! Your training is beginning to come to an end here at BVA, but remember that education never truly ends. Now is when you get to connect to the network, work on-peak times, make mistakes, and gain experience on position. Good luck and keep up the great work! See you on the scopes,

Congrats on the cert, WT! Looking forward to seeing you on the scopes. Keep up the great work

KPWM: Pack the Pattern - Thanks for the traffic
Camden Bruno replied to Andrew Morkunas's topic in Events
Hey Andrew! We're glad this past Pack the Pattern generated so much traffic at LGA for us all to share. Absolutely a great opportunity for students to get on the network and work a decent amount of aircraft. Thank YOU and ZNY for staffing in support of the event. It's always great being able to handoff to adjacent sectors and keep the ATC going vs handing to UNICOM during a busy event. ZNY and ZBW do a great job of supporting each other during events and I'm happy thats the case. Again, glad you enjoyed the night. Regards, -
Due to a lack of turnout for this session, we have delayed the Approach Plates - pt. 1 Ground School until May 15 at 6PM. We hope to see you there!

Congrats VT. Keep up the great work and see you in the cab.

Congrats DY! Great job, as always. Been a pleasure seeing you progress through the ranks

Camden Bruno replied to Brandon Bergna's topic in Recognizing Excellence
Congrats, WS. Look forward to seeing you on the scopes. -
As the Boston controllers begin to log off the controllers, staff, and administration of the Boston Virtual ARTCC would like to take this time to thank all of those who participated in tonights Friday Night Ops event. To our neighboring controllers, we appreciate your support and hard work in ensuring aircraft had a swift transition into the Boston airspace. As far as the pilots go, you all were among some of the best quality we've ever seen. Remember, without participants like yourself, these events would not be possible. Please take the time to send our controllers feedback so that we know how we did. We were extremely proud of our performance, as we never had a single hold or delay. Feedback can be sent via www.bvartcc.com/feedback Also please be sure to follow us on Twitter (@BVARTCC) and check out some of our tweets, pictures, and screenshots from the event. We look forward to our next Friday Night Ops this upcoming fall and wish you blue skies and happy landings until then. Hope to see you in our airspace soon,

Congrats Nils! Keep up the great work and see you on the scopes!

Please join me in congratulating Arvid Hansson (HO) on passing his Boston Center checkout today, while working Cross the Pond Westbound 2016. A Center OTS is hard enough as is, but completing it during Cross the Pond truly shows a controllers expertise. Not only that, but before controlling at ZBW for this Cross the Pond he worked London Control while departures were taking place! That is true dedication and we're happy to have you as a part of the team. See you on the scopes and have fun!

Yes, this is true. Generally we have about 20-30 BVA pilots participating, and that is what we told ZDV. However, we also warned them of the fact that, with any staff-up, if VATSIM pilots see an entire airspace staffed, they will naturally come. Considering they were originally only planning to staff 3 positions, I think ZDV simply under-estimated the level of traffic and workload that was going to be present. This could be a possibility, however, you have to keep in mind that all other ARTCC's within VATUSA are solely controller-based. That said, we could offer but there would be no pilot group attending, it'd be all controllers. From what I've experienced, the only real way to learn air traffic controlling is to be on the scope, not necessarily experiencing it from a pilots perspective. In my personal opinion, I believe the best way to give constructive criticism is to leave feedback advising them of some of the issues you witnessed. Then, with that feedback, the staff team can focus in on some of the main problems that were experienced throughout the duration of the event. It's an extremely nice thought to offer a learning experience for them, but I'd be worried that we may be overstepping our bounds. And thank you to pilots like yourself who are able to recognize mistakes, give constructive criticism, but at the same time see the positive side and make it a learning experience for those involved. People, such as yourself, are what makes this community what it is. Additionally, the positive attitudes and ability to always see the bright side makes our role as administrators a whole lot easier. We appreciate the fact that you recognize our controllers as high quality and thank you for being open-minded to doing a similar getaway event in the future, despite some of the hiccups. Thank you again,

Please join me in congratulating Krikor Hajian (HI) for passing his Boston Approach OTS this evening. HI dealt with the typical OTS load of traffic into and out of the A90 airspace, including but not limited to un-towered airport operations, GA traffic into MHT and the Class D's, VFR advisories, a variety of approaches, and much more. HI has done a great job progressing through the ATC program and I look forward to seeing what he's got on the en-route level.
