Austin Cirulli (RQ) did a fantastic job during his Boston Ground OTS this afternoon, hitting it out of the park on his first try. For all Observers and Class C DEL/GND controllers, you should look at RQ as a model student and aim to follow in his path. I'm continually impressed by his dedication and care. He ensures that he shows up to every session prepared, and leaves every session with exactly what he needs to work on for next time. In doing so, he is earning certifications in a very timely fashion considering he puts the time and effort into studying and practicing. Keep up your positive attitude, RQ. I look forward to working with you more on frequency and am excited to watch you continue to rise up the ranks. Onwards and upwards,

Although the annual Boston Tea Party event is a BVA air traffic controller event, we may invite members of our pilot community if we have enough space at the venue. If we do end up having available space, pilot members will be invited on a first come, first serve basis. If you are a pilot member and are interested in attending, please email [email protected]. This is in no way a commitment on your part if you choose to email at this point, but as a matter of respect for your fellow community members, be serious if you decide to email. It may have an impact on how many people we can accept, and in years past we have come close to turning some pilots away due to space restrictions only to have others be no-call/no-shows. Once we have final controller attendee numbers, we will know how much space is available for pilot members. If there is space, we will reach out to pilot members who expressed interest in the order we received their emails. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. Thanks,

I was chatting with Nico via private message about the fact that D'Andre was the one flying. So awesome! -

The NAV CANADA implementation of "climb via" and "descend via" -- at least where I was -- was a mess. 2 out of the 5 airports I fly to daily were using "climb via", and the others weren't. In one case (Abbotsford), the Tower would use it, but the FSS that provides after-hours service wouldn't. Meanwhile, they also decided that (in Canada), "descend via" wouldn't include speeds (i.e., a previously-assigned speed restriction still applies) whereas in the U.S., "descend via" cancels the assigned speed and returns you to what's published. The inconsistency there likely created a lot of the confusion that led to the suspension. Hm...more examples against privatization...

We're SO excited to have him back...

Sneaky... -
Riley Shannon (SO) just passed his OTS on Portland Ground! He quickly transitioned back into controlling after some time away due to real-world time restrictions. Riley is a past BVA controller and a real-world ATP student, therefore, has a great amount of experience and knowledge that he can contribute to BVA. We're very excited to have him back and look forward to seeing him on the scopes and climbing back up the ranks. Again, great job! Onwards and upwards,
